Helping you get through tough times

8 tips for self-care

Tree with heart shaped leafI think it’s fair to say that when your mind isn’t in the right place your body can often suffer as well.

Here are some small very doable things you can do for yourself which will make you look and feel better when you’re not feeling your best.

1. Exercise

Be it a brisk walk in the park or a good long session in the gym, whatever tickles your fancy, but just getting out of the house and moving will keep you from falling into that funk.

2. Treat yo’ self

This doesn’t have to break your bank either, a simple night in with a movie or video game, taking time to cook your favourite meal, or a soak in the tub can work wonders!

3. Nutrition

While chocolate doesn’t hurt every now and again, could it be replaced with a smaller amount of dark chocolate? Without drastically changing your diet, drink more water, have a glass with every meal at least and add fruit as a snack and you’ll really feel the benefits both mentally and physically!

4. De-clutter

Take that washing basket out of your room, make your bed. That top you haven’t worn in 6 months? Donate it. We’re all guilty of it but we all have the power to change it. A clean room can do wonders to clear your mind.

5. Meditate

I couldn’t recommend this enough!! There is an app called Headspace, download it before you finish this article, it’s a game changer! Taking time out of your day just to be aware of your body and mind gives you such control. It helps you to be present with everything in life.
Yoga is also a good one if you’re into that kind of thing!

6. Gratitude

Even in the toughest of times, there is always something we have to be grateful for and it’s usually the things you take for granted. Take a second to appreciate the important things in life. Make a list to look at so when you need a reason to push forward it’s right in front of you.

7. Hobby

Be it sports, music, or whatever it is that sparks a light within you. Find your passion and incorporate it into your life. It’s a great way focusing the mind and feeling that sense of purpose.

8. Rest

You should aim to get 8-10 hours sleep a night. It can sometimes feel impossible but if you are properly rested the time you are awake will be so much more productive and you will feel so much better. It’s so worth it and who doesn’t love sleep anyway?

To be the best version of yourself you need to take care of yourself both inside and out! You are worth taking the time to do so. Feel good and it’ll impact you and the people around you. If you feel good you may influence others to do the same.
