Reach Out, Speak Out
‘Reach Out Speak Out’ is song about the importance of young people speaking out and seeking help for mental health issues.
A group of Cork teenagers: Trisha Sexton, 14, Paul Woods, 17, and Shane Keane, 20, came up with the idea as they were concerned about the rates of teenage bullying, anxiety, depression and suicide.
Working with Foróige
The group approached Foróige Youth Worker Deirdre Dennigan about their ideas and together they worked with Garry McCarthy from GMCBeats Workshops (gmcbeats.com) to write, produce and record a song and video on these issues.
Speaking out about mental health
Written and performed by Trisha, Paul and Shane, their work holds very powerful and touching messages from teens to teens and the wider community about reaching out and speaking out about mental health, while also being there to listen.
They received a ‘Ones to Watch’ award for the rap at the recent Aldi Foróige Youth Citizenship Awards.
