Watch out lads
It only comes round once every four years and today is the day. This extra day of the year, 29 February, is the reason for loads of somewhat romantic and questionably comedic films. Traditionally, is the one day every four years that women propose to men.
Of course nowadays this seems a bit outdated, judging by some radio reports this morning it may not be that popular an idea, in general. But days like this provide a good excuse to reflect on how changes in social norms over the years have affected our expectations of our relationships.
So what’s normal
The thing is (despite what TV and the movies may tell us) there is still no “normal” for any relationship. Different people have different needs and wants from a relationship. Both you and your partner should be able to identify what you need and also what you are willing to compromise on.
We’re led to believe that, with the right person, everything should move along blissfully easily but at the end of the day it’s all a bit of a balancing act. As rewarding as relationships are, they take a bit of work too. But it should be possible to work through many problems.
What makes a good relationship
It can be hard to keep a relationship positive and healthy, especially with the stresses of everyday life thrown in. We know you’ve heard it before but, communication really is key. Listening and being open-minded while staying assertive about your own needs can be tricky so check tips for effective communication.
Good luck ladies!
