Hi Bernie
That's great to hear your getting help and that you're open to meeting others in the same situation as yourself.
The organisation Bodywhys runs some support groups around the country and they also have some online too. If you email alex@bodywhys.ie they can fill you in with the details of their support groups.
Take care
regards

Hi Sarah. A

It's great to hear you found the site helpful. If you think your body image is related to your self harm make sure you bring it up with your therapist. They will be able to help you come up with strategies to feel better about your body.

All the best

There is so much pressure out there to look the best you can, and it really can be unrealistic and take it's toll. I have BDD and have had it for a few years now. I'm getting so much better now but I still have my days of course. Even if I have the chance to go out with my friends I don't because I'm constantly paranoid about my weight etc. I'd never wish this upon anybody. If anyone happen to be reading this that thinks they might have it, go and get help NOW, because the sooner you go and get help, the sooner the scars will heal. Good luck <3

I really feel for young girls and boys in this 'looks orientated society' even those that dont have issues are still insecure and paranoid.I am nearly 34 and even though I understand that it is just a culteral thing, I find myself exploring ways to make myself look better. At the core I really believe if you have good friends, family and people in your life that let you know how special you are you are less likely to suffer from low self esteem, and more likely to accept yourself. I worry for those that do not have that fudamentle support system. Thank god Bodywhys is there. It's so important to be able to talk to others and know that you'r not a minority and others think the same. The work that you do is amazing.
