Helping you get through tough times

My day at Zeminar

Luke Brown, one of our volunteers, was recently at Zeminar with his school and this is his account.

My day at Zeminar started with me waking up late because I was traveling with my school. I then traveled in the opposite direction of the RDS out to Donabate to get the train then get there five minutes before my class. Phew!

Free stuff

Normally, at events like these I just go and find all the free stuff but instead I roamed around for about 20 minutes trying to find the ReachOut.com stand. When I found it I wrote something positive that makes me smile for their board, and I said ‘Lollipops’ which I still stand by.

After that, I took three stickers and put them on my friends’ heads and roamed around like I usually do, scavenging free stuff. I put my name down for stuff I didn’t even know what it was for. I probably signed my soul away at one point.

Meeting people

The amount of people there was crazy, but it was cool to see so many people in the one place. It was very exciting to see what everyone was doing there and I actually saw someone that I haven’t seen in about two years which was nice.

It’s great to go to these events because you could meet new people or people you haven’t spoken to in years.

Alone for a bit

At this point I so much I lost my friends, so I decided to go out the back where there was this big truck promoting road safety. You could go inside and there was loads of stuff to do like reaction testing, the worst just dance simulator for that safe cross code song, VR Driving and Motorbike safety and tire testing.

After that I roamed around looking at all the different youth services like Foróige. I also learned about second level student cards which is helpful because I’m REALLY tall and I get charged adult fare on the bus, even though I’m 15 so since it’s Photo ID I can prove I’m under 16 years-old.

What I took from the day

One thing I took from the day was that always do as much as you can because sadly I didn’t get a chance to go to any talks but I did enjoy the day. I remember looking through my bag and seeing 2 more bags, lights and lollipops everywhere.
