First Fortnight 2016
We’re at the beginning of another year, the first fortnight you might say. Most of us were back at school, college or work today and not necessarily happy about it.
January can be one of the toughest times of the year, whatever you’re at.
The excitement of Christmas is well gone and has been replaced by feeling broke and sluggish, after a few weeks of eating Celebrations for breakfast.
So there’s a lot talk of fresh beginnings, forming new habits and resolutions which is great (you know we’ll be doing that a lot), but the potential to feel a bit crap right now is quite high.
First fortnight in January
First Fortnight was set up at this time of year for precisely these reasons: January can be a tough month. Founded in 2009, First Fortnight is a charitable organisation which is creating space for conversation around mental health.
The festival opens up discussions around mental health using culture and the arts. Music, theatre, film, there’s something interesting going on for everyone.
While there’s lots on to entertain and create awareness, there are also programmes to help those with less access to help. For instance there are art psychotherapy sessions available for homeless people.
Don’t let the resolutions stop you
There’s only one First Fortnight festival a year, and it’ll slip by fast. So why not take two minutes to see if there’s anything of interest on near you?
Short on cash?
We’re all budgeting now it’s January, so luckily most things on for First Fortnight are really reasonably priced or free!
