Getting festival ready
Got your fairy wings, glitter, body paint, pantomime cow suit and wellies ready? Festival season is on! Here are some tips to make sure you’re festival fit.
Festivals are great fun, but the aftermath ie the following week, can be pretty hellish.
As with most things, if you prepare well you’ll most out of them, while also making the coming back to reality the next week a bit easier too.
There’s a little bit more to it, than hand sanitiser and tissues.
Get quality sleep
During term-time there’s no problem getting sleep. The bright evenings make it a bit more difficult. Summer’s distractions and relaxed schedule, it’s easy to miss out on quality sleep.
Do make sure you get proper rest, either side of the festival. Read relaxation for more.
Eat nutritious food
Even though there can be a pretty good range of food at festivals these days, we can ending up just eating stodgy food for soakage. Do try to get some nutritious food before, during and after the festival.
Vegetables and the like, and fried food in moderation.
Festivals can be a bit of an endurance test. Warm weather (hopefully) and maybe more alcohol that you’d normally consume, waking up in roasting tents.
Stay hydrated. Yes, alcohol is indeed fluid, but it doesn’t mean it hydrates you. Quite the opposite in fact. Whatever else you’re drinking, remember to drink water regularly.
I work out
You probably walk and dance more at a weekend festival than you do in a month, which is great. Gentle exercise either side of festivals can do you the world of good and help with the aches you may feel afterwards.
A brisk half-hour walk a day will help to relax your muscles and clear your head.
Have a post mortem! We say don’t do it after an exam, but totally do it after a festival. Stay in touch with others who feel the same and understand the fear.
Share the memories and your stories, reliving it as much as you can. We’re all starting to realise that experiences make us happier than posessions, so make them last.
Have the best fun
Look out for each other and enjoy it!
