Powerful, but ordinary,

Aside from tactical, tennis specific advice, his two most prominent tips were more general. In fact they’re the kind of thing that we could all make use of. Quite simply:

  • Try your best
  • Be good to yourself.

Any kind of positive self-talk can help us navigate life a little better. Just trying to remember to be kind to ourselves, and do is our best is a great life philosophy. Although, this is easier said than done.

No need for steroids

Self-esteem is something we can build on and make stronger. In a way it’s kind of like a muscle, the more we exercise it, the stronger it is.

Actively being mindful of what we say to ourselves can make a huge difference to our levels of confidence. It is something many of us need practice with though, especially for those times when we don’t feel as strong.

Fake it ’til you make it

It sounds ridiculous, but it can work. Posturing, so things like body language an internal monologues really make a difference to how we manage and approach life.

If you need a bit more convincing, there’s even a popular Ted talk on the notion. Indeed, it’s interesting even if we’re preaching to the converted!
